About
Why we built DebtLab
DebtLab grew out of a frustration every direct lending team will recognise. The same loan lives in far too many places: the deal team, the back office, the valuation committee, the fund accountants and investor relations each keep their own version, and quarter-end is spent persuading them all to agree.
We built DebtLab to bring all of them onto a single book of record. A loan is created the moment its deal closes, and everything that follows, from its ledger, rating and covenant tests to its valuation, the fund’s journals, the NAV and each investor’s capital account, flows from that one record. Every team keeps its own module and permissions, and the controls between them are built in rather than bolted on.
DebtLab is designed for direct lending and private credit managers across the UK and Europe, whether you run a single fund or several vintages with parallel and feeder vehicles, share classes and side letters.
Our principles
What DebtLab is built on
A single source of truth
Every fact, from a facility’s margin to a month’s EBITDA or a covenant level, is entered once and used everywhere else by reference. Derived values are always calculated, so there is never anything to keep in sync by hand.
Built around the lifecycle
The modules follow a loan and a fund through their whole life: pipeline, closing, servicing, monitoring, valuation, fund accounting, NAV and investor reporting. Events such as a waiver or a repayment are recorded in their own right.
Auditable by design
Every record shows who did what and when. Ledgers are append-only, valuations, NAVs and monitoring months are closed rather than overwritten, and approvals are enforced by the system itself.
Models you can defend
The rating, PD and LGD, staging, ECL and fair value methods are documented with their limitations, back-tested and visible to every user. Changes can be previewed borrower by borrower and rolled back.
Plain language
Screens, notices and the investor portal explain what each figure means, and investors get plain-English explanations of IRR, ECL, IFRS 9 stages and headroom.
Tested with every release
The calculation engines, server logic and key user journeys are covered by automated tests that run on every change.
